Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links

Master architect Clyde Johnston's creation, Glen Dornoch, welcomed its first players in September of 1996. The 270-acre site is blessed with a dense stand of oaks, pines, and magnolias. Coastal golf courses are usually rather flat but this site has several natural 35-foot elevation changes, which slope down to South Carolina's most beautiful stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway. With respect for the land, the course was built one hole at a time. At Myrtle Beach's Glen Dornoch, each hole flows with the natural terrain of lakes, live oaks, and spectacular marsh and river views. If you've ever dreamed of playing one of the world's truly great courses.... that dream can now be a reality. The magnificent clubhouse features a traditionally decorated pro shop with an extensive fashion collection. The Pub offers homemade salads, fresh sandwiches, and delicious daily specials.... all served with a tranquil view of the unique double green of 9 and 18, plus the scenic Intracoastal Waterway. Glen Dornoch is located on Highway 17 at the northern end of Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand in the town of Little River, just a mile or two south of the SC/NC state line.

Glen Dornoch's web site is nice. It has good course information and a tour of three of their best holes, which are truly exciting to play. The photos in the virtual tour do not do the holes justice. On 16 there is a washout in front of the green that you're almost afraid to stand on when you play because it is so steep. The 17th hole has an immense mound that is incredibly ominous and the 18th hole, well you just have to play it.
